Mounting Up to Heaven and Down to the Depths – Psalms 107:26

In Psalms one hundred seven the Psalmist shared about, “They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters. These see the works of the LORD, and his wonders in the deep. For he commands, and raises the stormy wind, which lifts up the waves thereof”, and in chapter one hundred seven and verse twenty-six of Psalms the Psalmist said, “they mount up to heaven, they go down again to the depths” where we read,

They mount up to the heaven, they go down again to the depths: their soul is melted because of trouble.

The verse begins, They mount up to the heaven, they go down again to the depths: The Psalmist began with the words, “they mount up” or “the ships in the sea, climb, ascend and shoot forth” “to the heaven” which means “toward the visible sky”, “they go down again” or “they, the ships, descend, decline, march and sink down another time” “to the depths” which means “toward the deep parts of the sea”. The Psalmist referred to the way the ships bob up and down upon the waves of the sea.

The verse goes on to say, their soul is melted because of trouble. The Psalmist continued with the words, “their soul is melted” or “their, the people aboard the ships, heart, mind, desires, living being and seat of emotions and passions, exists as softened, dissolved, dissipated and faint” “because of trouble” which means “since and on account of bad, evil, disagreeableness, unpleasantness and malignancy”. The Psalmist said the heart, mind and will of the people who do business upon the ships exists as faint and dissipated on account of their afflictions and difficulties.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist shared about the rising and falling of the ships as they sailed upon the tempestuous waves of the sea. The hearts of the sailers grew faint as they bobbed up and down in their difficulties. God observed these things, and He was willing to save those who were in great affliction if they would only call upon Him. God loves us, and He sees when we are bobbing and weaving upon the tempestuous waves of life. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and rescue us when we are “troubled” by the winds and waves of life.

Next time the Psalmist said, “they reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
