Setting the Poor on High – Psalms 107:41

In Psalms one hundred seven the Psalmist said Jehovah God, “pours contempt upon princes, and causes them to wander in the wilderness, where there is no way”, and in chapter one hundred seven and verse forty-one of Psalms the Psalmist said Jehovah God, “sets the poor on high from affliction” where we read,

Yet sets he the poor on high from affliction, and makes him families like a flock.

The verse begins, Yet sets he the poor on high from affliction, … The Psalmist began with the words, “yet sets he the poor on high” or “still he, Jehovah God, exalts and lifts up the needy, oppressed and abused” “from affliction” which means “separate and apart from trouble, misery, depression and poverty”. The Psalmist shared how Jehovah God lifts up people who are needy and oppressed from their misery and trouble.

The verse goes on to say, “… and makes him families like a flock.” The Psalmist continued with the words, “and makes him families” or “and fashions, establishes, appoints, constitutes and forms him, Jehovah God, clans, tribes, people and nations” “like a flock” which means “similar and in likeness to a multitude of small cattle like sheep or goats”. The Psalmist shared how Jehovah God fashions groups of people together similar to a multitude of small cattle.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how the Psalmist said Jehovah God cares for people who are oppressed and abused, and He gathers them together unto Himself like a group of small cattle such as sheep or goats. God wants a “family”, and His “family” is gained through His Son Jesus who came into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we yield our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and allow us entry into His spiritual “family” who shall live with Him in Heaven forever and ever.

Next time the Psalmist says, “the righteous shall see it, and rejoice”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
