In Psalms one hundred five the Psalmist said Jehovah God, “sent Moses his servant; and Aaron whom he had chosen. They showed his signs among them, and wonders in the land of Ham”, and in chapter one hundred five and verse twenty-eight of Psalms the Psalmist shared how Jehovah God, “sent darkness, and made it dark” where we read,
He sent darkness, and made it dark; and they rebelled not against his word.
The verse begins, “He sent darkness, and made it dark;” The Psalmist began with the words, “he sent darkness” or “He, Jehovah God, assigned and dispatched obscurity, misery and destruction”, “and made it dark” which means “and caused it to be darkened, hidden, concealed and obscured”. (See Exodus 10:21-23) The Psalmist referred to the plague sent by Jehovah God which caused extreme “darkness” to cover the land of Egypt.
The verse goes on to say, “and they rebelled not against his word.” The Psalmist continued with the words, “and they rebelled” or “and they, the people of Egypt, were contentious, rebellious, refractory and disobedient” “not against his word” which means “in no way or manner in opposition to his, Jehovah God’s, utterance, declaration and proclamation”. The Psalmist said the people of “Egypt” became temporarily compliant to the word of Jehovah God when He sent “darkness” upon them.
When we consider the words in this verse, we discover how the Psalmist referred to the “darkness” Jehovah God assigned to the land of “Egypt”, and this affected their people at least in a temporary manner. God wanted the people of Egypt to comply with His demand to let His people Israel go, but they refused, and He sent plague after plague to attempt to convince them. They were compliant for only a short time until the plague was removed, and they went back to their rebellious and wicked behavior again. God’s desire is to have a personal relationship with every person as they yield to His Son Jesus who came into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and encourage us to comply with Him and His ways to the betterment of our lives.
