Give Us Help From Trouble – Psalms 108:12

In Psalms one hundred eight David asked, “Will not you, O God, who have cast us off? and will not you, O God, go forth with our hosts?”, and in chapter one hundred eight and verse twelve of Psalms David said, “ give us help from trouble” where we read,

Give us help from trouble: for vain is the help of man.

The verse begins, “Give us help from trouble:” David began with the words, “give us help” or “provide, ascribe and grant to us, David and the people of Israel, aid, succor and assistance” “from trouble” which means “separate and apart from straits, distress and anguish”. David appealed to Jehovah God to grant assistance to him and the people of Israel.

The verse goes on to say, “for vain is the help of man.” David continued with the words, “for vain” or “because, since and on account that empty, false and as nothingness” “is the help of man” which means “exists the aid, succor and assistance belonging to people whether male or female”. David said the aid and assistance of people was empty and as nothing.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how David knew Jehovah God’s “help” was greater than any other. No one is able to give “aid” like God, and although people have good intentions, no one is better than Him. God loves us, and He proved it when He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins. (See Romans 5:8) When we “confess with our mouths the Lord Jesus, and believe in our hearts that God raised him from the dead, we shall be saved”. (See Romans 10:9) Let us realize we have no greater source than God when we are in “trouble”, and may we trust Him in our troublesome times.
