Clothed with Cursing – Psalms 109:18

In Psalms one hundred nine David said his enemy, “loved cursing, so let it come unto him: as he delighted not in blessing, so let it be far from him”, and in chapter one hundred nine and verse eighteen of Psalms David said, “he clothed himself with cursing” where we read,

As he clothed himself with cursing like as with his garment,

so let it come into his bowels like water, and like oil into his bones.

The verse begins, “As he clothed himself with cursing like as with his garment, … David began with the words, “as he clothed himself with cursing” or “in the same manner and likeness that he, David’s enemy, put on, wore and was arrayed with in his own self by the use of execration and vilification” “like as with his garment” which means “similar and in likeness to the use of his, the enemy of David’s, outer clothing and vesture”. David referred to the way his adversary was arrayed with vilification, and he adorned it like his outer clothing.

The verse goes on to say, “… so let it come into his bowels like water, and like oil into his bones.” David continued with the words, “so let it come” or “therefore, wherefore, then and on this account allow and permit it, the cursing of his enemy, enter” “into his bowels like water” which means “into his, the enemy of David’s, inner parts, emotions and heart similar and in likeness to flowing watercourses”, “and like oil” or “and similar and in likeness to fat, medicament or unguent” “into his bones” which means “into his, the enemy of David’s, essence, substance and body limbs”. David prayed that Jehovah God would allow the selfsame vilification that was worn by his enemy to enter into his heart and soul similar to a watercourse and like fatty unguent into his body limbs.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how David wanted Jehovah God to return to his hating foe the same manner of vilification that he put upon himself. God knew what David’s enemies were doing to themselves and David, and He would avenge David in His own timing, purpose and plan. God desires to save every person who will yield themselves to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for their sins. When anyone surrenders their life to Him,they will be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life. We have an opportunity to receive Jesus as our “Savior and Lord”, and we are wise when we yield and commit all the unjust ways of our foes into the hands of God.

Next time David says, “let it be unto him as the garment which covers him”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
