Man’s Days are as Grass – Psalms 103:15

In Psalms one hundred and three David said, “Like as a father pities his children, so the LORD pities them that fear him. For he knows our frame; he remembers that we are dust”, and in chapter one hundred three and verse fifteen of Psalms David said, As for man, his days are as grass” where we read,

As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourishes.

The verse begins, As for man, his days are as grass: David began with the words, “as for man” or “when it comes to people whether male or female”, “his days are as grass” which means “his, the people whether male or female’s, measure or division of time according to twenty-four hour periods exist similar and in likeness to quickly perishing herbage, hay or leeks”. David said the longevity of people is as fleeting as the “daytime” period of quickly perishing hay.

The verse continues,as a flower of the field, so he flourishes. David added the words, “as a flower of the field” or “like and similar to a shining bright colored bloom or blossom belonging to the ground or soil”, “so he flourishes” which means “even and indeed he, the people whether male or female, shines, gleams and puts forth blossoms”. David said the time for people is similar to the shiny and gleaming “blossoms” in the soil.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how David compared the lifespan of people to the fading grass and blossoms in the “fields”. Grass fades. Flowers perish, and for the most part, the lives of people on earth fade as well. Jehovah God, however, is eternal, and He desires to live with us forever. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross to pay the penalty of death for the sins of all mankind. When we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us eternal life and allow us to move from the temporary state upon earth to live forever and ever with God.

Next time David says, “the wind passes over it, and it is gone”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
