In Psalms one hundred five the Psalmist said Jehovah God, “sent Moses his servant; and Aaron whom he had chosen. They showed his signs among them, and wonders in the land of Ham. He sent darkness, and made it dark; and they rebelled not against his word. He turned their waters into blood, and slew their fish. Their land brought forth frogs in abundance, in the chambers of their kings. He spoke, and there came divers sorts of flies, and lice in all their coasts. He gave them hail for rain, and flaming fire in their land. He smote their vines also and their fig trees; and broke the trees of their coasts. He spoke, and the locusts came, and caterpillars, and that without number, ..”, and in chapter one hundred five and verse thirty-five of Psalms the Psalmist shared how the locusts and caterpillars, “did eat up all the herbs in their land” where we read,
And did eat up all the herbs in their land, and devoured the fruit of their ground.
The verse begins, “And did eat up all the herbs in their land, …” The Psalmist began with the words, “and did eat up” or “and devoured and consumed” “all the herbs” which means “each, every, the whole and everyone of the green plants, tender shoots or herbage” “in their land” or “within the territory, region and country of Egypt”. The Psalmist said the flying grasshoppers and devouring caterpillars consumed every one of the green plants throughout the land of Egypt.
The verse continues, “… and devoured the fruit of their ground.” The Psalmist added the words, “ and devoured the fruit” or “and ate up or consumed the produce” “of their ground” which means “belonging to the land of the Egyptians”. The Psalmist shared how the flying grasshoppers and devouring caterpillars consumed the produce within the land of Egypt.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how the Psalmist referred to the damage that was done by the flying grasshoppers and devouring caterpillars within the land of Egypt. Their green plants were all eaten, and their produce was consumed. We would think these plagues would have convinced the Pharaoh of Egypt that it was foolish not to obey God and allow the people of Israel to be set free, but it did not. Stubborn hearts have a difficult time believing and trusting in God, and even though He sent His only begotten Son Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, some will not believe. God invites everyone to be forgiven of their sins, granted everlasting life with Him and protection from eternal consumption, and we only have to believe and trust in Jesus for this to be. Let us carefully consider the offer of God to obey Him, and may all our stubbornness be put aside and receive His Son Jesus as “Savior and Lord” today.
