We Have Sinned with Our Fathers – Psalms 106:6

In Psalms one hundred six the Psalmist said, “Blessed are they that keep judgment, and he that does righteousness at all times. Remember me, O LORD, with the favor that you bear unto your people: O visit me with your salvation. That I may see the good of your chosen, that I may rejoice in the gladness of your nation, that I may glory with your inheritance”, and in chapter one hundred six and verse six of Psalms the Psalmist said, “we have sinned with our fathers” where we read,

We have sinned with our fathers, we have committed iniquity, we have done wickedly.

The verse begins, We have sinned with our fathers, we have committed iniquity, … The Psalmist began with the words, “we have sinned” or “the Psalmist and the people of Israel have missed the mark, erred, incurred guilt and wandered from the way” “with our fathers” which means “alongside our, the Psalmist and the people of Israel’s, male ancestors and progenitors”, “we have committed iniquity” or “we, the Psalmist and the people of Israel, have acted in a bended, twisted, distorted and perverted way”. The Psalmist said he and the people of Israel had missed the mark of God’s way alongside their fore-fathers, and they had acted in a twisted and perverted way.

The verse goes on to say,… we have done wickedly. The Psalmist continued with the words, “we have done” or “we, the Psalmist and the people of Israel, have acted, made and performed” “wickedly” which means “in a guilty, condemned, wrong and disturbing manner”. The Psalmist referred to how he and the people of Israel acted in a wrong and disturbing way.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist confessed his and the people of Israel’s violation against the ways of God. To “miss the mark” or “sin” is prevalent within all people. (See Romans 3:10 and 3:23), and the penalty for sin is death. (See Romans 6:23) This is why we need a “Savior”, and God sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins so that we may be forgiven of them and inherit everlasting life with Him. Jesus died, rose from the grave three days later and offers salvation from sin to everyone who will yield to Him as “Savior and Lord”. Let us humble ourselves before God, admit our sinful condition and receive His Son Jesus whose crucifixion paid the price for our errors and wrongs.

Next time Psalmist says, “our fathers understood not your wonders in Egypt”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
