God Will Outlast the Heaven and Earth – Psalms 102:26

In Psalms one hundred and two the Psalmist said, “I said, O my God, take me not away in the midst of my days: your years are throughout all generations. Of old have you laid the foundation of the earth: and the heavens are the work of your hands”, and in chapter one hundred two and verse twenty-six of Psalms the Psalmist said of the heavens and earth, “they shall perish, but you shall endure” where we read,

They shall perish, but you shall endure: yes, all of them shall wax old like a garment;

as a vesture shall you change them, and they shall be changed:

The verse begins, They shall perish, but you shall endure: yes, all of them shall wax old like a garment; The Psalmist began with the words, “they shall perish” or “they, the heavens and the earth, will vanish, be destroyed and eliminated”, “but you shall endure” which means “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover you, Jehovah God, will last, remain, persist and continue”: “yes, all of them” or “even so and indeed, each, every, the whole and everyone of the heavens and earth” “shall wax old” or “will wear out, decay, be consumed and wasted” “like a garment” which means “similar and in likeness to clothing, coverings and apparel”. The Psalmist referred to how the heavens and earth are temporary, however, Jehovah God is eternal, and the heavens and earth diminish and are consumed like fading apparel.

The verse goes on to say,as a vesture shall you change them, and they shall be changed: The Psalmist continued with the words, “as a vesture” or “similar and in likeness to raiment or clothing” “shall you change them” which means “will you, Jehovah God, substitute, alter and renew the heavens and the earth”, “and they shall be changed” or “and they, the heavens and earth will be substituted, altered and renewed”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God would alter and renew the heavens and the earth like clothing or apparel, and they would be renewed thereby.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist exalted the power and might of Jehovah God. Heaven and earth were created by Him, and although they are diminishing, He is easily able to alter and renew them at His will. (See Revelation 21:1) God loves people, and His desire is to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus that will last eternally. He sent Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield to Him, we are forever changed by having our sins forgiven, gaining everlasting life and living with Him forever and ever.

Next time the Psalmist says, “but you are the same, and your years shall have no end”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
