In Psalms ninety-seven the Psalmist said, “Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart”, and in chapter ninety-seven and verse twelve of Psalms the Psalmist said, “rejoice in the LORD, you righteous” where we read,
Rejoice in the LORD, you righteous; and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.
The verse begins, “Rejoice in the LORD, you righteous;” The Psalmist began with the word, “rejoice” or “be gladdened, gleeful and cheered up” “in the LORD” which means “in Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”, “you righteous” or “you, people whether male or female, who are just, correct, lawful and vindicated by God”. The Psalmist called upon his readers and listeners who were lawful and just to be gleeful before Jehovah God.
The verse continues, “and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.” The Psalmist added the words, “and give thanks” or “and grant, bestow and confess laud, praise and worship” “at the remembrance” which means “at the memory, recollection and commemoration” “of his holiness” or “pertaining to his, Jehovah God’s, apartness, sacredness and separateness”. The Psalmist instructed his readers and listeners to grant and bestow worship upon Jehovah God when they have memories and recollection of His sacredness and purity.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist wanted lawful and just people reading and listening to his words to be gleeful and cheer up within Jehovah God. They were to praise and worship God whenever they had memories of His sacredness and separateness. God is holy, and He deserves our worship. We are to be right and just before Him and the result will be joy within our souls. When we remember that He is holy and just, we should give Him praise, honor and worship for who He is and what He has done. God loves us, and He desires to have us yield to His Son Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord”. Jesus came into the world to die on the cross for our sins, and when we believe and trust in Him, we will obtain forgiveness and eternal life with God. Let us “rejoice” and “give thanks” to our Holy God for what He has done for us.
