If Children Break God’s Statutes – Psalms 89:31

In Psalms eighty nine Ethan the Psalmist shared how Jehovah God began to say concerning David, “If his children forsake my law, and walk not in my judgments”, and in chapter eighty nine and verse thirty-one of Psalms Ethan shared how Jehovah God continued to say of David’s children, “If they break my statutes” where we read,

If they break my statutes, and keep not my commandments;

The verse begins, If they break my statutes, … Ethan began with the words, “If they break” or “whether and in case they, David’s offspring and descendants, profane, defile, pollute and desecrate” “my statutes” which means “my, Jehovah God’s, ordinances, limits and enactments”. Ethan shared how Jehovah God considered what would happen should David’s offspring profane and defile His ordinances.

The verse continues,… and keep not my commandments; Ethan added the words, “and keep not” or “and do not guard, observe and give heed to” “my commandments” which means “my, Jehovah God’s, laws, ordinances and precepts”. Ethan shared how Jehovah God also considered the idea of David’s descendants not observing His laws and precepts.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how Ethan continued to share Jehovah God’s possible conditions for the offspring of David. Perhaps these descendants defile and pollute God’s ordinances, and suppose they do not observe and give heed to His laws, then the following verse tells us what will happen to them. God’s idea is to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus whom He sent into the world to die on the cross for our sins, and when we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us to follow His ordinances and law by the power of His Holy Spirit and grace.

Next time Ethan the Psalmist shares how Jehovah God continues to say of David’s children, “then will I visit their transgression with the rod”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
